The 3 Month Plan

Do you currently have a plan in place to help you stay on track with your goals? If you do that’s great, however if you don’t, keep reading as we share our ultimate secret when it comes to planning for success.

The secret to managing a social life, working full-time and enjoying everything else in between comes down to planning and if we are being specific, our 3-Month Plan. If you have been meaning to get more organised then this is the perfect way to get started!

Why 3 months?

Honestly, a year is a long time and we have found that breaking the year down into quarters helps cut down your planning time overall – yes really! You will find that you will also have a check-point for reviewing where you are and what you may need to change for your next 3-month plan to keep you on track.

What goals do I start with?

Try and focus on your top 3 goals for the year. If you are stuck for ideas, this might be improving your general health and wellbeing, saving money or even learning a new skill. Whatever it is, think about what you want to achieve. If you still don’t know where to start, think about your current life and what you have been wanting to change and never made that time for – make that your new goal! We know you can do it!

So how do I start my plan?

We recommend aiming to start your planning on the first of the month if you want a fresh start, however any day of the month is perfectly fine. This would just mean your new month would fall on this day so just keep this in mind for future planning. Either way, we usually set a date approximately 2 weeks before the end of the month for when we will plan the next 3 months and you will then start to build momentum after a few of these and you won’t know what you did before it. The secret is to continue making time for your plan and you can use the steps below to get started.

Step 1: Write down your non-negotiables in the upcoming months first. This may be a function, event, birthday or even the night of the week you choose to spend with your partner.

Step 2: If you have a goal e.g. to exercise a particular number of times per week; note this down on the days that the classes you attend are on or the days that you will go to the gym.

Step 3: In the spare time allocate time to work on your business or actively learn the new skill that you have never got around to start.

Step 4: Allocate a time in the third month that you will sit down to map out your next 3- month plan. We recommend scheduling this in the last week of the month.

Remember that your plan is helping you visually see your current life as it is, but also helping you implement a change and help you reach the goal you were wanting to start with. In saying this your plan should still be an enjoyable set of things to do that you are excited about doing or at least see the value in. For example factoring in chill time at least once a week and in between tasks on the weekends is important for balance. Remember you make the choice for how you spend your time – make it work for you!

How do I track my progress?

When you are meeting your goals it is also important to acknowledge this in some way. For us, we use gems! Similar to giving a child a gold star, our gems add a little sparkle to our day and remind us that we have made a step towards our larger goal. These get stuck on our monthly calendar which hangs on our fridge so that we can visually see what we have completed that month. You want to be able to see and track your successes as this will give you more motivation to continue. Remember that not everyday has to be planned or scheduled, if you have a free moment in your week you may also want to keep it open for some much needed you time & that time can be used to do whatever makes you feel good, whether that’s reading a book, taking a bath, watching a movie or simply getting to bed early.

Ready to take action? These are your next steps:

  1. Get your very own TPD Monthly Planner here OR if you would like to get started straight away simply use any piece of paper to draw out your first few months.

  2. Choose a place to sit quietly, away from distractions and work your way through our 4-step process from above. If you find the process overwhelming at any step, simply acknowledge those feelings and let yourself work through it slowly, even if that means coming back to it later. If you feel like you need any extra support, feel free to send us an email and/or Instagram message.

  3. Place your 3-month plan somewhere you can see it every day and celebrate with a little dance that you’re one step closer to achieving your goals! Even better, snap a picture of your completed 3-month plan and share it with us via Instagram @theplannedduo or in our Facebook group – The Duo Channel, so we can all celebrate with you and support you on your journey.

If you have any questions, please get in touch! We do this for YOU and we will always be here to support our community. Happy planning 🙂

With happiness,
Ash + Lauren
