More often than not remembering to take a breath and relax is not common practice when starting a business or working towards a new goal. The statement usually being ‘there is no time to relax’ or ‘I can’t relax until I get this done.’
Like you, we find ourselves victim to the same thoughts, however if you don’t have the time to take a breath and relax now, when will you?
The truth is, there will always be something more to do, especially when it comes to building your small business and that is a good thing, but what about you? What are you doing to look after your mind and body for the long term?
Building your brand and/or ideal lifestyle is one thing, but finding something outside of that goal that recharges you and gives you the energy to keep innovating and working towards your vision is important.
So how often should you take time out for you?
The short answer: Everyday!
Ok – don’t panic. Yes this is another thing to do, but it will help maintain the best you and ultimately prepare you for the long term.
For those of you who struggle to take time out and relax, we have listed some of our go-to activities to switch off and reset.
Read a book
If you are anything like us there will be an ever growing list of books that we want to read. Factor in the time to start with one book that you have been meaning to read and escape from the world for an hour or so. If you’re after some ideas, have a read of our inspiring read blog.
It can take time to integrate meditation into your daily life and sometimes we don’t get to each day (which is perfectly ok!), however this is a great way to pause and reflect where you are right now. If you are looking to get started with meditation we recommend Oprah & Deepak and The Modern Meditator.
If you are looking to balance your mind and body, do some research and find some Yoga classes in your area or even try some classes online. If you’re from Melbourne, Australia check out Summer Healing Yoga. They have a range of different classes whether you are just starting out or if you are more experienced in your practise.
Go For a Walk
The simplicity of stepping outside, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying a moment in nature can do wonders for changing your mindset and assisting in relieving stress. It’s important to move our bodies every day, so why not allow our minds to refocus whilst we do it. It really is the perfect way to relax, all you need to do is put on your runners and walk out the door!
Listen to a Podcast
We are so lucky to be able to lift our moods, be inspired or motivate ourselves with the world of Podcasts these days. Whether you’re focused on health and wellness, growing your business, becoming a parent or learning something new, there’s a Podcast out there to guide you. Find a show or two that you connect with and let yourself curl up with a hot drink and immerse in it. You could even listen to a Podcast during your daily walk, it’s honestly the best feeling. Oh, did we mention we actually have a Podcast? Listen to season 1 of ‘The Duo Channel’ on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or Google Play.
Find a form of exercise you love and your body will thank you for it. There are so many options from going to a gym, KX Pilates or one of our favs KIC where you can exercise in the comfort of your own home! If you have never done any of these, enquire about a trial or a first time package so you can find out what you enjoy before committing.
If you love being pampered then having a facial and/or massage can help you really relax and unwind. Finding a place that has a beautiful vibe as soon as you walk in is a must! If you’re from Melbourne, Australia you must try Nourish Day Spa in Olinda, who have a number of different packages available and take the time to personalise your experience.
Cup of Tea
What is better than a warm cup of your favourite brew? With so many flavours available and health benefits associated, a cup of tea can instantly change your mood. Make it at home or visit your local cafe for a change of scenery. We can’t go past a cup of chai!
Take 30 or 45 minutes for yourself at Urban Retreat and come out feeling balanced and refreshed by sweating it out! We felt amazing after only one session and can’t wait to go back!
Ready to take action? These are your next steps:
- Choose your favourite activity from above and give yourself permission and time to relax today.
- Repeat this process daily! Of course you won’t always be able to escape to a day spa, but you can definitely make time everyday to either walk, read a book or simply enjoy a cup of tea.
