How you choose to start your morning will impact everything from your mindset to your overall attitude for the day ahead. If you are someone that wishes they had more time in the morning we share our tips below for how to establish an effective routine so that you can start the day feeling accomplished.
Why is a morning routine important?
Think of it this way, your morning sets the tone for your day ahead – so how do you want to feel throughout your day? If you start your morning in a rush or it doesn’t go to plan, think about how this impacts your mindset and how much energy you use trying to shift your focus into being productive. Wouldn’t you much prefer being able to move through your day with ease?
Here’s our top tips for establish a morning routine:
1. Get clear on your top priority
By understanding your most important goal in the morning you can structure your routine around this and if it’s something of high value you will make sure you do it. For example if you love a morning cup of coffee or tea, meditation, exercise or to sit and enjoy your breakfast you want to build this into your morning routine.
When it comes to creating your morning routine, what works for us or you will be different to what suits someone else, however, we want you to get clear on what is most important to you in the morning and aim to achieve and enjoy this above anything else.
2. Trial what works for you
Initially, when you are setting out your ‘perfect morning’ you may need to make the time to experiment and change the order of how you do things. We suggest creating a list of all your morning tasks so you can see where you are spending your time and assess what is working, what you like and what you don’t. This will then form the foundation of your timeline so that you can work backwards from when you need to leave the house right to when you need to get up.
3. Make small changes to suit your lifestyle
When it comes to establishing a new habit it can take time for you to adjust – this is perfectly fine! We consider everything we do on a daily basis to form part of the lifestyle we are creating and we are constantly changing and evolving to see what works for us as individuals. There is always the opportunity to adapt and change and we suggest taking it step by step, changing one thing first and then slowly adding other changes over time so that you can see what is working and what is not.

- Get clear on your top priority for the morning. Write a list of the tasks you need to achieve in the morning and a list of the tasks you would like to achieve.
- Combine the tasks in both your lists in order of priority. Is it possible to achieve everything? How much time would you need to allocate?
- Map out your ideal morning routine by the minute and gradually make small changes each day until you find what works for you. After a few weeks you should have your very own tailored morning routine ready to go.
