When you are starting a new business it is only natural to want to do things ‘right’. To be honest, every business journey is going to be different and what is seemingly right for one will be different for you.
Prior to becoming The Planned Duo we were both working on our own independent ventures, however when we decided to start our partnership we found that we were following similar steps when starting our new brand.
So how do you go from idea to action?
1. Define your intention
Whilst developing a well recognised brand will take time to develop try and think about what the core of your business is about. What problem are you trying to solve? Whilst sometimes you might find yourself having the doubt that your idea is not as good as something that it already out there remember that if you have the passion and drive you can make it happen your way!
2. Create your brand
Your brand is so much more than what your logo looks like or what colours you choose. Your brand is a representation of who you are as business and it’s important that your visual identity and brand is only created once you know what you want to say. When it comes to designing a logo, choose colours that align with your vision and reflect the overall mood you want to create. Your logo will become memorable in the market and will set the foundation for your signature style. We are both so passionate about branding and well considered design concepts so once you define your intention, then work on creating the visual experience for your target market.
3. Develop your systems
Would we be The Planned Duo if we didn’t have a passion for planning and organisation? The best thing you can do as a new business is implement a system for the various aspects of your business.
Creating a list of what you what you need to do regularly so that you don’t miss anything is the most valuable tip we have! This will ensure that as your business grows and everything is accounted for. Stay tuned for upcoming material that we will be creating to help support you and your venture!
4. Create consistency
When there are so many things to do, being consistent can be challenging. However, as much as possible deliver on your promises to start establishing trust with your audience. If you are saying that you will be emailing them each week, then make sure you do! Creating an expectation for when they will hear from you will make them excited for what is coming next.
5. Post relevant content
When we started our business we had so many ideas and services that fitted perfectly under our brand, however, it soon became apparent that it was overwhelming for our audience and difficult to market. At the beginning of a new business it’s only natural to want to do EVERYTHING but as you grow, you will realise that doing everything isn’t realistic. The best decision we made was separating the two parts of our brand into our business journey @theplannedduo and then our lifestyle @duochannel. We now find that the content we feature flows better for our audience and communicates what we do.
Moving through the stages of developing a small business takes time and helping small businesses grow and develop is the direction we are now taking as you will continue to see.
