When starting something new it’s only natural to feel scared, if you’re not, then do you really even care? It’s important though not to let the fear overtake the feeling of joy and most importantly stop you from starting.
The common question we ask ourselves is ‘what if’, what if it doesn’t work? what if people judge me? what if I can’t do it? Trust us, we still do this, it’s impossible to stop our brains from functioning this way, but what we can do is make a conscious decision to choose love over fear and this choice is changing our lives. When your mind wants to dim your light, push through and change your negative thought into a positive and believe in yourself because if you don’t no one else will.
If you struggle to choose love, we recommend trying to implement the below into your lifestyle and over time you’ll hopefully see how you gradually choose love without thought.
1. Set the tone for your day
When you wake up, tell yourself how you want to feel, not how you think you feel. The moment we let ourselves fall into the spiral of ‘I’m tired’ ‘I don’t want to go to work’ ‘I don’t have the energy’ we let ourselves manifest that into our day. Instead tell yourself ‘I’m happy’ ‘I’m excited’ I’m ready to kick my goals’ and this will honestly change your mindset for your day and allow you to tackle anything thrown at you.
2. Be Grateful
Practising gratitude every morning allows you to be thankful for where you are and what you have. It takes away any fear and instead replaces it with ‘warm and fuzzies’. Throughout your day continue to be grateful when you feel yourself being negative or hard on yourself. An example of this is when you’re overwhelmed with work and want to give up, tell yourself how grateful you are that you have a job. As soon as you replace it with something good, you will feel an automatic relief and realise it’s not as bad as you think it is and this is the power of choosing love.
3. Surround yourself with good people
As a duo, we are lucky to have each other to lean on and it’s the support of each other that gets us through the tough days. Make sure you surround yourself with good people and energy, without it, you will find yourself in a constant state of fear and it will only stop you from achieving your goals. There is always going to be someone who wants to bring you down, but remember this is a reflection on them not you, so be rid of anyone who doesn’t make you feel good and focus on being friends with those who will inspire you to be the best version of you!
4. Let yourself make mistakes
The only way to grow is through mistakes, so as we like to sing “Pick yourself up and dust yourself off and back in the saddle” (Thank you Shakira), our business continues to evolve because we take chances and learn along the way. So commit to yourself today and don’t let fear stop you from anything again and if you need a little extra motivation we highly recommend downloading ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) by Shakira and sing and dance until you believe it!
